Today's Hijri Date & Islamic Calendar

Islamic date right now — changes at local sunset

Tuesday

25 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH

25 ربيع الأول 1448 هـ

September 8, 2026

Officially Confirmed in Pakistan

This live date updates at local Maghrib and may show tomorrow's Hijri day before Gregorian midnight. The monthly calendar below maps each Gregorian day to its Hijri date directly and does not shift after sunset.

View today's Hijri date, explore the Islamic calendar, convert dates, and check important Islamic occasions. Dates for Pakistan follow official moon-sighting announcements when available — Islamic dates can vary by country, since a new month begins only once its crescent moon has actually been sighted.

Islamic dates can differ between countries because the beginning of each month may depend on local moon sighting. Your selection is remembered on this device.

Hijri dates for upcoming months are estimates and may change after the official moon-sighting announcement in your country. Pakistan dates are updated according to official Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announcements when available — an Islamic day begins at sunset, not midnight.

Hijri ⇄ Gregorian date converter

Convert any date between the Gregorian and Hijri calendars, with the calculation method of your choice.

Gregorian → Hijri

Example: 1 Ramadan is typically expected in the first half of the Gregorian month it falls in, but the exact date depends on moon sighting — this converter shows the calculated date and clearly marks it as calculated or officially confirmed, never one as the other.

Guide

How this Islamic calendar works

The Hijri calendar is lunar, so each month begins with the sighting of a new crescent moon rather than a fixed number of days. This calendar uses a hybrid approach: a calculated baseline for every date, upgraded to an officially confirmeddate the moment Pakistan's Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces a month's start.

Until that announcement happens, Pakistan dates are shown as estimated — calculated, but not yet confirmed by moon sighting. Dates under the Saudi Arabia (Umm al-Qura) and Global methods are always shown as calculated, since those methods are astronomical calculations rather than day-by-day sighting announcements.

Calculated dates come from the AlAdhan Islamic Calendar API, fetched server-side and cached for 24 hours. If that service is temporarily unavailable, this page falls back to an offline calculation so the calendar keeps working.

FAQ

Common questions

What is today's Islamic date in Pakistan?+

The hero section at the top of this page shows today's Hijri date, calculated for the Asia/Karachi time zone and clearly labeled as officially confirmed, calculated, or awaiting moon-sighting confirmation.

Why can the Hijri date differ between countries?+

The Islamic calendar is lunar, and a new month traditionally begins once the crescent moon is actually sighted (or, for some countries, once specific astronomical criteria are met). Because moon visibility depends on location and local sighting committees announce independently, the same Gregorian day can fall on different Hijri dates in different countries.

Is this Islamic calendar based on moon sighting?+

For Pakistan, yes — when the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced a month's start, this calendar uses that exact date and marks it 'Officially Confirmed in Pakistan.' Until that announcement happens, Pakistan dates are shown as calculated estimates, never presented as official.

What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?+

Umm al-Qura is Saudi Arabia's official Islamic calendar, based on a specific astronomical calculation rather than day-by-day moon sighting. Selecting 'Saudi Arabia — Umm al-Qura' in the method switcher shows dates using that calculation.

When does an Islamic day begin?+

An Islamic day begins at sunset, not midnight — so, for example, the night before a Gregorian calendar date can already be considered part of the next Hijri day in religious practice.

Are future Ramadan and Eid dates confirmed?+

No. Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and other future occasions shown on this page are calculated estimates until the relevant moon-sighting committee makes an official announcement, typically a day or so before the month begins. This page never labels a future calculated date as officially confirmed.

How can I convert a Gregorian date to Hijri?+

Use the date converter on this page — pick 'Gregorian → Hijri', choose a date, and select your preferred method (Pakistan, Saudi Arabia/Umm al-Qura, or a global calculation) to get the corresponding Hijri date.
